In this Flashforge Adventurer 3 review, I’ll go through the key features that set it apart from the competition while also discussing drawbacks you should have in mind. So let’s go deeper into the print capabilities of the Flashforge Adventurer 3.

About Flashforge Adventurer 3

Founded in 2011, Zhejiang Flashforge 3D Technology Co., LTD is one of China’s first and most respected 3D printing equipment companies. The Adventurer 3 is a filament-based 3D printer first launched in 2018.

One of the things that make the Flashforge Adventurer 3 stand out is its price. It is one of the most affordable printers on the market, and it is perfect for people who have no previous experience with 3D printing. Moreover, the printer comes with a wide range of features, which make it perfect for people who want to experiment with different printing techniques.

Design

When I first saw this 3D printer, I was really taken aback. It has an excellent build quality, and its construction also appears to be sturdy and long-lasting

The Flashforge Adventurer has a build volume of 150 x 150 x 150 mm. This is smaller compared to other printers on the market but is still large enough to print most objects. The build plate is mounted using two slots in the base platform, where it slides in and locks into place.

The Adventurer 3 has a removable heated print bed that slides along the Y-axis while its single printhead moves on the X and Z axes.

Features

Fully Enclosed Build Chamber

The Flashforge Adventurer 3 comes with a fully enclosed build chamber, which is a great feature for keeping the temperature stable and preventing drafts from affecting the print. The chamber is also well-insulated — when everything is closed up, the machine operates very quietly.

This print chamber has two functions:

  1. Keeping the printing temperature at a stable level (this is essential if you prefer to use ABS filament)
  2. Reducing the noise level when printing

Built-In Camera

The Flashforge Adventurer 3 boasts a built-in camera on the right hand, allowing you to monitor the progress of your prints. In addition, the camera makes it easy to troubleshoot any problems that might occur during the printing process.

Touch Screen Interface

The touch screen featured on the Flashforge Adventurer 3 is convenient and easy to navigate. Basically, you can control all of the printer’s settings, including the temperature and print speed. In addition, it allows you to control different functions, such as starting a print, calibration, setup and more. This makes it easy to fine-tune your prints to get the best results.

Nozzle

The nozzle is made of high-quality metal, so it is very durable and precise. It is also easy to clean, helping to keep the printer running smoothly. The nozzle and heat bed warm up very quickly, so you don’t have to wait long to start printing.

Bowden Extruder

A Bowden extruder pushes the material through a lengthy tube before reaching the hot end. Since it does not have a stepper motor mounted on it, this extruder allows faster movement of the print head. Also, the extruder system includes a turbofan and air guide for improved print quality. The heat generated by the extruder reaches a maximum of 240 degrees Celsius

Automatic Filament Feeding System

One of the best features of the Flashforge Adventurer 3 is its enclosed built-in filament cartridge with an automatic filament feeding system. This type of system ensures that the filament is fed into the printer correctly, preventing any printing issues.

This 3D printer also features a filament detection sensor, which means the printing will be paused when no filament is detected. The supported filaments are PLA and ABS (a 250 g PLA sample is included with the printer).

The filament change process is straightforward — simply press the filament change button to unload the filament. Once you’ve done that, you will need to stick in the new filament, press a button, and wait until the new filament comes out of the nozzle.

3D Cloud Platform

The Flashforge Adventurer 3 also allows cloud printing. By connecting to the cloud platform through Wi-Fi, you can transfer printing files, check the printing status, and monitor prints in real-time. You can also store or back up your files on the cloud and share them with other users, making project collaboration easier.

Connectivity

You can connect this 3D printer to your local Wi-Fi network for remote control. Also, you can connect it to your network using the Ethernet port. Once you are online, the printer will start downloading the firmware updates. Note that the Flashforge Adventurer 3 also has a USB port for importing print models via USB stick.

Performance

However, the FlashForge Adventurer 3’s primary interface is a 2.8-inch touchscreen LCD, which is bright, responsive, and easy to navigate. It allows the user to load filament, calibrate the bed of the printer, connect to a wireless network, and view real-time statistics as the printer is running.

Unfortunately, the Flashforge Adventurer 3 has a layer shifting problem. This means that the print layers can shift during printing, causing prints to fail. This problem is most likely to occur with larger prints, as the weight of the print can cause the layers to shift. Because of that, the Flashforge Adventurer 3 has a tendency to clog.

Software

Flashforge Adventurer 3 uses FlashPrint slicing software. Some of the disadvantages of the software are the inability to show the remaining print time and the camera image from inside of the printer. So you’ll need to enter the webcam address manually in the browser to see it.

Also, this app can be slow while rendering a very detailed 3D model.

Nevertheless, FlashPrint is a well-performing and easy-to-use app. Moreover, it is quick and easy to install.

Setup and Print Quality

Setting up the Flashforge Adventurer 3 is quick and easy. Follow these steps to do it hassle-free:

  1. Load the filament — You need to insert the filament into the extruder until it reaches the point where the extruder gears. Then, push the filament loop button and wait to see if the new filament is coming out of the nozzle. You can use either PLA or ABS.
  2. Install the software — The Flashforge Adventurer 3 comes with FlashPrint software which offers a wide range of features for customizing your prints. You can go with basic settings or switch to “expert mode” by clicking the “more options” button. The software is easy to use, so it’s great for 3D printing beginners.
  3. Connect the printer to your computer — The Adventurer 3 comes with a USB cable, which allows you to connect the printer to your computer.

Keep in mind that the last step is optional. As I already mentioned, you can print your designs without connecting the printer to your computer.

NOTE: To read the full instructions, you will need to download them from the FlashForge Home page.

The print quality is decent, but stringing isn’t uncommon. Also, if you want to print big 3D models, there is a possibility of cracking and heavy layer shifting. Still, the filament runout sensor works flawlessly.

Customer Support

Exceptional customer support is essential when owning a machine like a 3D printer. Fortunately, Flashforge agents are prompt in replies and pretty willing to help. What’s more, you can find several video tutorials and guides on the Flashforge official website. It also has a searchable knowledge base, so you can quickly find the answers to your questions.

Competitors

Flashforge Adventurer 3 vs Flashforge Creator Pro 2

Both of these 3D printers are Cartesian-style 3D printers. However, the Adventurer 3 is a more straightforward machine, with everything integrated into the same structure.

Considering the Creator Pro 2 weighs 15 KG and measures 526 x 360 x 403 mm (20.7 x 14.2 x 15.9 in), it is clear that it is larger than its competitor. In terms of connectivity, Flashforge Adventurer 3 supports USB, SD cards, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and cloud printing, while the Creator Pro 2 supports only USB and SD cards.

For those who need a machine that is not only easy to use but works well too, Flashforge is one of the best options to consider. These two Flashforge 3D printers differ in build volume, design, printing performance, and more. For example, the build volume of the Creator Pro is 225 x 145 x 150 mm, while the Adventurer 3’s is 150 x 150 x 150 mm.

Creality Ender 3 vs Flashforge Adventurer 3

The Creality Ender 3 comes pre-assembled, featuring a build volume of 220 x 220 x 250 mm. Considering such a decent bed size, the Ender 3 comes at a really affordable price. This is an open-source printer with a compact design, allowing for multiple upgrades without causing any harm to the overall functionality. The Creality Ender 3 is a flexible printer compatible with some of the standard market filaments such as PETG, PLA, TPU, and ABS.

The Adventurer 3, on the other hand, is another fantastic option for 3D printing beginners. Its build volume measures 150 x 150 x 150 mm, which is a lot smaller compared to the Ender 3. The Flashforge 3D Printer has a simple, user-friendly control panel that enables quick printing. The Adventurer 3D comes with an integrated 3D printing platform with access to additional storage online, backup and share files, interact with others, transport printers, monitor and manage them all from one place.
