In recent years, gaming chairs have become an indispensable part of any professional gaming setup. Not only are they more visually pleasing than your standard office chair, but they also provide much-needed support and comfort during long gaming sessions.

Secretlab is one of the leading manufacturers of gaming chairs, and their latest model — the Titan Evo 2022 — is hailed as their best yet. It combines some of the best features of the hugely popular Titan and Omega lines but also brings some innovations to the table. In this hands-on Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 review, I will take a detailed look at this gaming chair and see if it’s worth the steeper price tag.

About Secretlab

Secretlab is a Singapore-based gaming chair manufacturing company established in 2014. Its founders, Alaric Choo and Ian Ang, are both former professional esports players specialising in StarCraft II. Unable to find a gaming chair that satisfied their needs, they devised a simple solution — to design one themselves.

Secretlab’s first gaming chair, the Secretlab Throne, was launched in May 2015 and sold 200 units within a week, allowing the company to break even in just a month.

Over the following months and years, Secretlab went on to introduce some of the best gaming chairs in the industry, including the Throne V2, the Secretlab Omega, the all-leather Omega Elite, and the Secretlab Titan. It also expanded its operation to several other markets, including Malaysia, Australia, North America, and Europe.

The Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 is the latest addition to the company’s line of gaming chairs, blending the best features of the Titan and Omega series into one.

Hailed as their most technologically advanced gaming chair to date, The Titan Evo 2022 comes with an improved design and a few innovations that make this the company’s best, though most expensive, gaming chair yet.

Design and Build Quality

As you would expect from a premium gaming chair manufacturer, Secretlab didn’t make any compromises regarding the materials and the build quality of the Titan Evo 2022. The chair is made of the highest-quality materials and has a sturdy construction built to last.

You have three upholstery choices — the Secretlab NEO™ Hybrid Leatherette, the SoftWeave® Plus fabric, and NAPA leather, each coming in various colours as well as video game-inspired themes and esports editions to choose from.

Available in three sizes, Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 can also accommodate a range of body types and sizes. The three chair sizes differ in weight support and seat and backrest width but are completely identical feature-wise.

  • Small Size — 45 cm wide seat base, recommended for people up to 169 cm tall who weigh up to 90 kg.
  • Regular Size — 47 cm wide seat base, best for people between 170 and 189 cm, weighing up to 100 kg.
  • Large XL Size — 49 cm wide seat base, recommended for people between 181 and 205 cm, weighing up to 180 kg.

Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 Design | CyberCrew

The Titan Evo I received for this review is wrapped in the SoftWeave® Plus upholstery in black colouring and is available for £434. At first glance, the chair looks strikingly similar to its predecessors, with a simple angular design and subtle Secretlab branding on the front, sides, and back.

However, you will find most of the upgrades beneath the chair’s surface.

Secretlab claims that the SoftWeave® Plus fabric featured on this chair is 3.5 times stronger than the original SoftWeave fabric found on the Secretlab Titan 2020. The fabric has a very comfortable and supportive feel and is also breathable, allowing you to stay cool even during long gaming or work sessions on hot summer days.

However, if you prefer a faux leather finish, you will not go wrong with the slightly cheaper NEO™ Hybrid Leatherette variant, available for £414.

This premium leatherette incorporates a top resin layer, and, according to Secretlab, it is 12 times more durable than regular PU leather. It is also mainly immune to spills and stains, making it easier to maintain. The tradeoff is that it is slightly less breathable than the SoftWeave® Plus fabric and, for pet owners, more prone to pet scratches.

If you are after the most refined version, Secretlab also offers this chair in NAPA leather, which is one of the most luxurious upholsteries on the market today. Still, at £814, it is double the price of the two other options.

Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 Aluminium Alloy Base | CyberCrew

Besides the quality of their materials, Secretlab chairs are known for their unrivalled build quality, and that trend continues with the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022. Thanks to its steel frame and aluminium alloy base, the chair feels incredibly stable and supportive. The wide casters on the aluminium legs feature rubberised wheels that run smoothly across carpets and hard floor surfaces without leaving any scratches or marks.

Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 Features and Comfort

Magnetic Accessories

Perhaps the most visible change featured on the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 is the magnetically attached headrest cushion. This is a nice upgrade from previous models, which relied on elastic straps for attaching the headrest cushion onto the chair.

With the Titan Evo 2022, the memory foam cushion simply snaps into place and is kept fixed by the magnets. As a result, you don’t have to worry about the elastic straps stretching or sliding off the top of the chair.

Overall, this is a simple but clever solution and one that gives the chair a cleaner and more sophisticated look. You can move the cushion roughly 12 cm across the backrest, which is a good enough range, enough for most people to find their perfect position.

The cushion itself is made of super-soft memory foam that is very comfortable to lay your head against and is also infused with some cooling gel that serves to whisk heat away and keep you cool.

The CloudSwap armrest tops are also magnetically attached, so you can replace them in an instant if they get damaged or if you simply want to upgrade to a different material.

This is a huge advantage, as the armrest tops are the most likely to experience wear and tear over time. Referred to by Secretlab as 4D, the armrests are also highly customisable and can move in four directions — up and down, forwards and backwards, inwards or outwards, and rotated from left to right.

Secretlab has also recently launched the PlushCell™ Memory Foam Armrest Tops, compatible with the Titan Evo’s CloudSwap armrests. Made of high-density memory foam, they have a slightly softer feel than the standard PU-coated armest tops that come with the chair.

They also feature a super soft velour finish that is very breathable and gives the Titan Evo an additional touch of comfort and luxury.

Available for an additional £65, the PlushCell armrests proved to be extremely popular among customers and are currently sold out. However, Secretlab is preparing another release of the armrest tops in October.

It is also worth mentioning that the magnets used in both the headrest cushion and the armrests are pretty strong, so you can rest assured that they will not detach unless they are not positioned correctly, or you try to remove them on purpose.

Redesigned Seat Base

Another subtle but useful upgrade of the Titan Evo 2022 is the pebble seat base. The new seat base has been redesigned with a smoother incline that naturally pushes the gamer’s body to the middle of the chair for better ergonomic support. This improved seat design also gives you much more room to move around, so you can easily switch from one sitting position to another.

But improvements in the seat base don’t stop there. Secretlab has also incorporated a contoured seat edge, also known as a “waterfall edge”. This unique design prevents the edge of the seat from coming in close contact with the back of your knees, resulting in an improved blood flow and less pressure on the thighs and knees.

The chair’s seat and backrest are generously padded with Secretlab’s signature cold-cure foam, providing excellent full-body cushioning and support. Secretlab describes the foam as medium-firm, but I found it leans slightly more towards the firmer side.

That is far from a drawback, however. While it may take you longer to get accustomed to a firmer seat, it is much better in the long run, as the chair will keep its integrity and support even after years of usage.

Internal Lumbar Support

Unlike most gaming chairs that feature a separate lumbar pillow, the Titan Evo comes with an internal lumbar support system built into the chair’s backrest.

Called the 4-way L-ADAPT™ lumbar support system, this internal mechanism works by moving up and down, as well as in and out, to match the natural shape of your spine. It is easily controlled with the two knobs on each side of the chair, one for adjusting the firmness and the other for adjusting the lumbar support’s height.

The internal lumbar support system is one of Titan Evo’s biggest selling points and a much more practical solution than the separate lumbar pillow featured on previous Secretlab chairs. Secretlab has also recently launched the Lumbar Pillow Pro, designed to adapt to the L-ADAPT™ support system for even better back support. It is available for an additional £59.

Other Adjustments

As typical of a gaming chair in its price range, the Titan Evo has a ton of adjustment options and an excellent range of movement.

You can adjust the height of the chair to your preference simply by twisting the lever underneath the chair. Moreover, the small and regular sizes feature a shorter and redesigned hydraulic, ensuring the chair maintains its ergonomic properties no matter which size you pick and making it easy to keep both feet on the ground.

Using the backrest hinge, you can also tilt the chair forward or recline it far back.

The Titan Evo also has an impressive 165-degree recline, allowing you to lay back almost completely flat and, owing to the generous side wings, still remain stable and without the unpleasant sensation of slipping backwards.

All of these adjustment options, combined with the 4D armrests and the built-in lumbar support, allow for an incredibly personalised sitting experience — you can practically adjust the Titan Evo any way you want to.

The Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 arrives in a huge box, with all the chair parts and tools well packaged and lots of styrofoam in between, ensuring that the chair would not be damaged during transit.

The first thing you will see when you open the box is a huge assembly sheet with step-by-step instructions on how to put the chair together. This is a welcome addition that will keep you on track during the entire setup process.

The first step consists of inserting the five casters and the hydraulic piston onto the wheelbase. The next step involves installing the backrest onto the seat base. The metal hinge bracket on the right side of the chair makes this incredibly simple — you simply slide the backrest into place, align the holes and tighten the bolts.

Once that is done, it is easy to place the side covers over the backrest brackets, as they are magnetically attached. These magnetic panels are a nice addition, as they hide the brackets and bolts and give the chair a cleaner and tidier look.

Moreover, the chair’s seat base comes with pre-installed armrests, further speeding up the assembly process.

Overall, assembling the Secretlab Titan Evo is easy and intuitive — it didn’t take me more than 25 minutes. You will probably have no trouble assembling the chair by yourself, but you may need extra assistance carrying the box, as some of the chair parts are quite heavy.

Price and Availability

The quickest and most affordable way to get the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 is to order it from the official Secretlab website. However, the pricing of this gaming chair can vary drastically depending on the size and upholstery you choose.

The leatherette upholstery in the small and regular sizes is the most affordable one, coming at £414. However, if you choose to get the XL chair in the same upholstery, the price increases to £484.

The SoftWeave Plus upholstery is slightly more expensive, with the small and regular versions available for £434 and the XL chair available for £504.

Finally, the NAPA leather variant is considerably more expensive, costing twice as much as the two other upholstery options. Again, the small and regular sizes are priced the same, at £814, but the XL size costs up to £914.

Secretlab provides direct shipping to residential and commercial addresses all over the United Kingdom, which can cost up to £29.90, depending on your location. Delivery is relatively quick — it usually takes 1–3 business days after the order has been processed (which can take up to two days).

Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 Alternatives

Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 series vs 2020 Series

The Secretlab Titan Evo is a combination of the Titan and the Omega series released in 2020. Comprising the Secretlab Titan and the Secretlab Omega, the 2020 series was hugely popular, and it made Secretlab one of the world’s largest gaming chair manufacturers.

Secretlab’s 2020 series is slightly more affordable, available for £359 for the smaller Omega and £324 for the Titan gaming chair.

Compared to the Titan Evo, the Secretlab Omega lacks an internal lumbar support system, featuring a separate lumbar pillow instead. In contrast, the Titan chair does come with internal lumbar support, similar to the one featured on the Titan Evo, but with slightly limited adjustability.

The magnetic attachments are also missing from the 2020 Secretlab series, which means that the chair’s armrests are not removable and swappable, and the headrest cushion can only be attached with elastic straps. Furthermore, the materials used in both series are similar, but in the Titan Evo, they are improved in quality and durability.

Overall, as the revamped version of the 2020 series, the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 series offers much better quality and comfort. So if you are willing to splurge a bit more, it is definitely the better option.

Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 vs Razer Iskur

The Razer Iskur is the first gaming chair offered by Razer, available for £499. As a premium gaming chair, it shares many similarities with the Titan Evo, most notably the built-in lumbar support system, the four-dimensional armrests, and the strong build quality.

The Razer Iskur also comes with many adjustability options, allowing you to customise the height, the backrest recline and the tilt of the chair to your preference. However, the backseat of the chair can be reclined up to 126 degrees, which is less than Titan Evo’s impressive 165-degree recline.

Unlike the Titan Evo, the Razer Iskur is also only available in one upholstery, a multi-layer PVC leather, and one size, with a maximum weight recommendation of 136 kg.

Wrap Up

In conclusion of this Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 Review, I can safely say that there is a lot to like about this gaming chair. Secretlab has yet again managed to create a comfortable, stylish, and functional chair that is suitable for both casual and professional gamers.

As the blend of two of Secretlab’s most successful chairs, this one is definitely up there with the best gaming chairs of the year. The only slight setback is the chair’s steeper price, but if you are not willing to compromise quality over a higher price tag, the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 is definitely a worthwhile investment.
