Over the last few years, the Simba brand has become synonymous with the  “mattress-in-a-box” term. It is currently Europe’s most five stars reviewed mattress brand.

Simba Sleep promises gravity-defying comfort and a sleep surface specifically designed to maximise airflow and regulate temperature.

Its award-winning hybrid mattress range combines thousands of pocket springs, and multiple layers of quality precision engineered foam. Thus, it blends the very best features of springs and foam.

About Simba

Today Simba is an online mattress company, but its journey dates back to 1979. Interestingly enough, it started with a single piece of thread.

This mattress brand started out by supplying its own spools of thread to a Derbyshire mattress factory. This thread business quickly blossomed, and the signature thread has currently been used in over 50 million mattresses worldwide.

From there, Simba set out to create its own high-quality mattress, one that is both affordable and that could adjust to any body shape and size for optimal comfort.

By working with three of the leading experts in their respective industries and using extensive research on over 10 million sleepers, Simba created a mixture between springs and the proprietary open-cell foam called Simbatex.

This mixture resulted in the Hybrid mattress range, which we will be looking at in this in-depth Simba Mattress Review.

Simba Types of Mattresses

At the moment, Simba has three Hybrid Mattresses on offer:

  • Simba Hybrid
  • Simba Hybrid Pro
  • Simba Hybrid Luxe

These mattresses combine a soft, breathable surface, Titanium Aircoil pocket springs, a patented open-cell foam called Simbatex, and a zoned, Simba-pure support base. Still, they differ in terms of depth and structure. So we will look at each of them separately.

Simba Hybrid

The Hybrid is Simba’s most affordable and best-selling mattress. It measures 25 cm in depth and is made of five layers

The white sleep surface of the mattress is hypoallergenic and breathable. Unfortunately, it cannot be removed or washed, so we recommend using a Simba mattress protector to keep your mattress clean and extend its lifespan.

Underneath is the open-cell Simbatex, Simba’s specially developed graphite infused foam.  Its open-cell structure encourages constant airflow through the mattress, and the graphite particles help filter heat away.

Next up is the 25 mm layer of Simba’s proprietary Aerocoil spring structure layer. These super-light titanium springs respond to body weight individually, providing excellent motion isolation and giving the mattress a more bounce sensation. Namely, there are 2,500 pocketed coil springs for the standard king size.

The Simba-Pure reflex foam layer underneath provides edge to edge support and moulds to the sleeper’s body shape.

Finally, the zoned Simba-Pure support base at the bottom is 155 cm. It is made of a firmer, more supportive foam and gives the mattress its thickness and stability. In addition, the zone system of the base provides excellent support for the most demanding areas of the body, such as the hips and shoulders.

In the image below, you can see how these different layers are placed.

Simba Hybrid Pro

The Simba Hybrid Pro is the second generation hybrid mattress. It differentiates from the Simba Hybrid in terms of depth and structure. Namely, it is 28 cm deep, and it consists of seven layers

At the top is the extra soft, hypoallergenic, knitted sleep surface that is unique to the Simba Pro mattress and comes with enhanced softness compared to the Simba Hybrid. It is 100% polyester made, and it cannot be removed, or machine washed.

Underneath is a luxurious wool layer. Wool is a natural temperature regulator, so you will never feel too hot or cold while sleeping on this mattress.

Next is the open-cell Simbatex foam layer that is graphite enriched and provides excellent cooling and much-needed pressure relief. Underneath are the two layers of Aerocoil pocket springs that are double the amount than the Simba Hybrid5,000 for the standard Simba king size.

The Simba-Pure reflex foam and the zoned support base remain the same as in the Simba Hybrid mattress.

Simba Hybrid Luxe

Simba Sleep describes the Hybrid Luxe as its most advanced mattress yet and justifiably so. This mattress is made up of 100% recyclable materials, ten layers and comes with an impressive depth of 31 cm

On top of this mattress is the softest, breathable sleep surface. In addition, the cover is unique to the Hybrid Luxe because it features an open-cell design

Its top part can be zipped off and machine washed at 40°, which will maintain your mattress fresh and clean at all times. For the grey half of the cover, Simba Sleep recommends using a damp washcloth for cleaning purposes.

The cover sits atop a bamboo wool layer, also unique to this mattress. It is hypoallergenic and soft. As a combination of nature’s two most temperature regulating materials, it absorbs moisture and filters out heat.

The Simba-Pure foam layer underneath remains the same as the two previous models and is graphite enriched.

The two layers of individually encased Aerocoil pocket springs remain the same as well. For the Simba Hybrid Luxe, there are up to 6,000 pocket springs in total.

Underneath are two layers of the HD Simba-Pure foam layer with edge support, and nestled between them is the 40 mm high carbon steel spring layer. Underneath these springs is the zoned base also found in the two previous models.

Simba Mattress Features

Comfortability and Firmness

Simba mattresses provide exceptional comfortability at a medium-firm feel. Although firmness is subjective and depends on the sleeper’s body shape and size, there are some slight differences in the firmness levels between the models.

Out of the three, the Simba Hybrid is the firmest one. So, for front and back sleepers, or those of a heavier weight, we recommend the Simba Hybrid the most.

The Hybrid Pro is also medium-firm in feel, but it leans much more toward the softer end side of the scale than the Hybrid. That is due to the dual springs and the wool layer that provide a slightly softer, plusher feel.

The triple spring system and the bamboo layer give the Simba Hybrid Luxe a slightly softer feel than both previous models. So, this mattress would be the most comfortable for side sleepers and those with a more petite figure.

Temperature Regulation

Every single layer of the Simba Hybrid mattresses has been designed to promote airflow and regulate temperature.

Unlike traditional memory foam that tends to retain heat, Simba’s patented open-cell foam is graphite infused and specially designed to encourage air circulation. In addition, the Titanium Aircoil pocket springs act like little bellows that let airflow through the mattress and keep you cool.

The Hybrid Pro and Luxe models also come with the added benefit of a natural wool layer, nature’s ultimate temperature regulator. This wool layer will keep your sleep temperature at an optimum level, cooling you in the summer and warming you up in the winter.

Motion Isolation

The Simba mattresses use pocketed coils that are individually encased in fabric. Compared to traditional interconnected coils, they compress individually and, as a result, are much better at limiting and absorbing movement.

However, as hybrids, the Simba mattresses don’t wholly absorb all motion. Still, unless you are an incredibly light sleeper, you will hardly feel your bedmate tossing and turning. Still, if motion isolation is a top priority for you, we recommend an all-foam option, such as the Emma Original mattress.

Edge Support

Hybrid mattresses are known for providing good edge support, and Simba is no exception.

The HD Simba-Pure foam layer underneath the pocket springs reinforces the edges and provides excellent support corner to corner.

So, even if you have the habit of clinging near the end of your bed, you will feel well-supported without that roll-off sensation typical for memory foam mattresses.

Purchase and Delivery Process

Your Simba Mattress will be delivered directly to your doorstep, vacuum packed, rolled up and sealed in a box, as customary for a bed-in-a-box mattress. The Simba mattress box is pretty small and compact, measuring 107 x 50 x 50 cm.

Setting up the mattress is very simple. All you will need to do is break the vacuum seal and cut the plastic. The mattress will then immediately start expanding, although it may take up to 72 hours to reach its full size.

All Simba deliveries to mainland UK come free of charge and usually take 2-3 business days. However, deliveries to offshore locations typically apply a small fee that is calculated at checkout.

The company is also very flexible when it comes to the delivery process. For example, you can pick the delivery date yourself and even request a next-day delivery, a service that includes an additional fee as well.

Trial and Warranty

Simba Sleep is also so confident in the quality of its mattresses that it offers a 200-night trial. If you decide to return your mattress within the 200-night time frame, you will get a full refund in 3-5 business days.

All Simba mattresses also come with a 10-year warranty. The warranty covers all manufacturing errors, such as a faulty zip, a foam that cracks, or significant dipping. So, in the unlikely event that you encounter any of these issues, Simba will replace your mattress with a brand new one.

On top of that, their FAQ section provides an in-depth explanation of their products’ maintenance, delivery service, the order process, and much more.

Simba Mattress Competitors

In this segment of the Simba Mattress Review, we will compare the standard Simba Hybrid to the best selling mattresses offered by other renowned brands.

Simba vs Emma

Although both mattress brands provide top-notch quality, they differ significantly in terms of composition.

While Simba features only hybrid models, Emma offers more diversity. Aside from the two hybrid models, Emma Sleep also offers an all-foam mattress, the Emma Original.

The Emma Original is among the UK’s most awarded and well-rated mattresses. It measures 25 cm in depth and features three foam layers: Airgocell foam, Viscoelastic memory foam, and HRX polyfoam at the bottom.

Compared to the Simba Hybrid mattress, The Emma Original is significantly softer, so it would be the best choice for people of an average or lighter build. Side sleepers also are better off choosing a softer mattress as it relieves key pressure areas, such as the shoulders and hips.

The table below shows all the other key differences and similarities between these mattresses.

Simba vs Eve

Both of these brands are UK based and provide their customers with bed-in-a-box mattresses that are sold online.

Although Eve recently launched two hybrid mattresses, the all-foam Eve Original remains its best selling and most popular product yet. It consists of three foam layers: a stringy open-cell foam at the top, a softer memory foam layer below, and a thicker dense foam that serves as the mattress’s base.

The Eve Original is a medium-firm mattress that provides much more support than some of its all-foam competitors, such as the Emma Original. It has a slightly firmer feel compared to the Simba Hybrid as well.

We recommend this mattress the most to front and back sleepers who prefer the sinkage provided by an all-foam structure but with a little more support than most foam mattresses.

Simba vs Tempur

Tempur is one of the best luxury mattress brands available that has been credited for introducing the first memory foam mattress to the market 30 years ago.

The Tempur range features four different models that come at different firmness levels and construction. In addition, these four models further divide in terms of depth.

The number of layers of the standard Tempur Original mattress depends on the model you choose. Still, they all feature Tempur’s proprietary viscoelastic foam, a sturdy support layer underneath, and Durabase Technology as the base.

It is a medium-firm mattress, around the same firmness level as the Simba Hybrid. See the table chart below for other key differences and similarities.

Simba Hybrid Tempur Original

Number of Layers 5 3-4 depending on the model

Customer Reviews

The most prominent platforms for Simba mattress reviews and testimonials are Trustpilot and Simba’s official site.

On Trustpilot, Simba currently has a 4.5 out of 5 stars rating, which is impressive considering there are over 29,000 reviews. Additionally, a vast majority of the reviewers (82%) gave Simba a five-star rating.

Most enjoyed the prompt delivery and the knowledgeable support team and praised their new mattress for the support, comfortability, and balanced pressure relief it provides. Many customers also reported back and joint pain relief after sleeping on a Simba mattress.

In contrast, some customers raised concerns about issues such as the mattress’s durability and late deliveries. Additionally, some users simply didn’t find the Simba mattresses suitable for their sleeping needs.

Wrap Up

The final verdict of this Simba Mattress Review is that the Simba mattresses are worth looking into. The combination of the conical pocket springs and the quality precision engineered foam is enough to provide a positive sleeping experience for most people.

We recommend these mattresses the most to sleepers to tend to overheat, as it has by far the best temperature regulation than any mattress we’ve reviewed so far. Also, anyone looking for a medium-firm hybrid mattress with a responsive feel will find the Simba mattresses more than enough for sound and undisturbed sleep.

Is a Simba mattress worth the money?

Yes, all Simba mattresses provide good value for money. They are comfortable, cooling, and provide good edge support and motion isolation.

Are Simba mattresses soft or firm?

Simba mattresses are rated as medium-firm, not too soft or firm, but the right balance between comfort and support. Still, there are slight differences between the models, with the Simba Hybrid being the firmest of the three.

Do you flip a Simba mattress?

No, all Simba mattresses are non-flip, as they are designed to provide one-way support. Still, Simba Sleep recommends rotating the mattress once a month during the first several months and reducing it to once every 3-6 months after that. In addition, all Simba mattresses come with side handles for easy manoeuvring.

How long does a Simba mattress take to inflate?

Your Simba mattress will begin inflating immediately after removing the vacuum seal. It usually takes 3-6 hours to reach its original size. Still, occasionally, it may take up to 72 hours for the mattress to fully inflate.

Are Simba mattresses good for hot sleepers?

Yes, all Simba mattresses are a good purchase if you get hot while sleeping. That is because the company focuses significantly on materials that provide airflow and breathability. As a result,  these mattresses will keep sweat at bay even on the warmest summer evenings.
